About us
Our research on coral reefs examines trophic pathways, ecosystem resilience, ecological theory, benthic community dynamics, animal behaviour and the evolution of biodiversity and processes.
Although we often focus on the ‘providers of functions’, our goal is to understand functions per se, i.e.
”the movement or storage of energy or material. “
Current research directions:
Our background lies in studying fishes on coral reefs in the Bellwood Reef Fish Lab at James Cook University in Townsville, Australia.
Now, thanks to a recent ARC Laureate Fellowship awarded to Prof David Bellwood, we have the ability to expand our research and launch the brand-new Research Hub for Coral Reef Ecosystem Functions.
How we work.
In the Reef Function Hub, we work hard, take our science seriously and aim to develop cutting-edge approaches.
We believe that quality and integrity of research are key to moving forward.
But we also believe that
successful science
needs happy scientists.
We value research that is driven by
curiosity and optimism about the future of reefs.
We foster a work environment that is diverse,
inclusive, and based on humanity and equity.
We are proud to work as a team and measure our success by supporting people in developing their skills, achieving their personal goals and changing the way we think.
